BRIARGATE PARKWAY TO UNION BLVD. NOW OPEN!
Colorado Springs, CO (July 27, 2004) --- La Plata Investments, LLC, the developer of the Briargate and Pine Creek communities, is pleased to announce construction of the extension of Briargate Parkway to Union Boulevard has been completed, and the roads are now open to traffic.
A formal public-private partnership, established between the City and La Plata Investments in October 2001, gave the green light for extending Union Boulevard from Charity Drive to Briargate Parkway. This agreement between the City’s SCIP – Springs Community Improvements Program – and La Plata was voted on and approved by citizens in 1998.
Scott Smith, CEO of La Plata Investments, commented, “This project was delayed for three years as we gained approval from U. S. Fish and Wildlife on protection of the Prebles meadow jumping mouse. We are happy that it’s open allowing better traffic flow in Briargate.”
The next phase of the road construction will bring the Briargate Parkway extension to Austin Bluffs Parkway by September, and then to Powers Boulevard by year-end. Powers Boulevard will be extended by La Plata from Research Parkway to Briargate Parkway at the same time. Union Boulevard will be completed by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) to Powers Boulevard also by year end, weather permitting. CDOT expects to complete Powers all the way to State Hwy. 83 by the end of 2005. |
